An input is for receiving the audio from somewhere else. Stereo RCA audio cables look like this. They have two RCA connectors at each end. One for the left channel and one for the right channel. The convention is to color the right channel red and the left channel white. However, this is just to help you wire your equipment together. An RCA plug is also commonly known as a phono plug or connector. So if you hear either term, they mean the same thing. They can be used to connect a variety of audio and video devices, such as camcorders, to TVs or stereos to speakers.
Most high-end camcorders have all three RCA jacks, so the signal entering or leaving the device goes through three separate channels—one video and two audio—resulting in a high-quality transfer. Lower-end camcorders usually have only one jack, called a stereo jack, which combines all three channels.
This results in lower-quality transfers because the signal is compressed. In either case, RCA cables transmit analog, or non-digital, signals.
Because of this, they cannot be plugged directly into a computer or other digital device. RCA cables connect amplifiers to all sorts of devices. Several factors affect the quality, price, and performance of RCA cables:. Actively scan device characteristics for identification. Use precise geolocation data.

Because of this, they cannot be plugged directly into a computer or other digital device. An RCA connector , sometimes called a phono connector or in other languages Cinch connector , is a type of electrical connector commonly used to carry audio and video signals. The connection's plug is called an RCA plug or phono plug.
RCA cables and speaker wire Your amplifier gets its input signals from the receiver's output typically via RCA cables. RCA cables come in stereo pairs, in various lengths. When running new speaker wires from your amplifier's output to the speakers, any size wire from to gauge will work fine. Now there are fundamentally two types of RCA cables : composite and component.
They differ only in terms of quality or type of the signal they carry. The composite type has three lines including one for video and the other two for audio which is usually used with stereo devices. RCA Cables RCA Audio Cables are an unbalanced analog audio connection that sends stereo audio over a right channel red tip and left channel white or black tip. Because they're unbalanced, they typically don't run over 25 feet. It will usually be labelled as an input or an output. An output is for sending the audio from this device to another.
An input is for receiving the audio from somewhere else. The RCA connectors are usually colored white for the left channel and red for the right channel. Video vs Audio Cables In most cases there is really no difference between the cables as the only difference is the signal that they actually carry.
A good example of this is the RCA cable. There are a couple of things that can make this cable more reliable. The retention at the back of the connector is weak because this is thin cable. To make it a bit more durable, apply a bit of Goop or E to the cable at that point. There is also no strain relief on these connectors. To produce a strain relief, you can use heatshrink tubing. This was shown on the Installation Primer page. When making up cables, it's common to forget to place the cover for the RCA plug on the cable before the last connector is soldered on.
This is VERY annoying. Don't forget to do this when making up your cables. Not all connectors are reliable. When I need a connector that will last for a long time, I use Switchcraft connectors. The last cables I made up for my test bench lasted for more than 5 years and were used repeatedly every day. I made up a temporary set from some metal plugs from Radio Shack and they both had intermittent connections between the shield connector where the wire solders to the connector, internally and the actual shield on the plug.
